LANGUAGE

When the expedition was planned back in Planet Earth, three nations sent people from their countries: United States of America, China, and Russia. Everyone, however, spoke English and used it as the primary language. When the arrival at Glaanus was complete, the decision of using English as the primary language was made, even though they didn't prohibit the usage of Mandarin or Russian. The governmental papers, however, are written in English, but have their version in the other two languages. Also, there are small communities within the region that speak Mandarin or Russian. In school, children are taught English as their primary language, having every course taught in English, but there are alternate courses in which the children can learn Russian or Mandarin. Public areas are a different story though. Every social place has the opportunity of deciding in what language they want to run their business, but they are obligated to have workers that speak English at least, so that communication is easier. English is also the main language due to the fact that when a "message" to the Shotoku Star System was sent, it was sent by the U.S. Government, so the other planetary nations adopted the language and that is how they communicated at first with the Glaanus leaders.

Regarding the language when communicating with other extraterrestrial communities in the Shotoku Star System, scholars in Planet Glaanus have managed to learn parts of the language of the respective planets, for example Jumija, who speak a dialect called Jumixun. Implementing Jumixun in schools hasn't been a complete decision yet, but talks about are being discussed, so that bonds with other planets is easier.
